Sandhills
Area Foundation

The Sandhills Area Foundation was established as a public charity in 1998. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for all people in the Sandhills area through the use of contributed funds entrusted to its stewardship. Since its inception, over $30,400 have been granted back to the community and surrounding area. A total of $104,750 have been awarded in scholarships.
The Sandhills Area Foundation awards grants in support of public and private services. The purpose of these grants is to provide funding for community projects that will enhance the long-term success and quality of life in the community.
The Foundation seeks applications that address strategic community development efforts which lead to population growth, job creation, wealth creation and retention, and increased leadership capacity. These efforts may include support for local entrepreneurs who are starting, growing or transitioning businesses; strategies to involve youth and attract young families; programs to develop and strengthen local leadership; building community capacity including workforce development, and educational efforts to create an awareness of the need for additional contributions to the Sandhills Area Foundation.

Charitable
Gift Annuity

What it is and how it might work for you.
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between you and a charitable foundation or other charitable group. You make an irrevocable gift to a charity of your choice. A portion of the gift is tax deductible. The designated beneficiary will pay to you a fixed amount for life based on the terms of the contract. If you have investments that are returning a small percent or no percent, a gift annuity might be worth looking at. The quarterly or annual pay-out is based on a persons age and the rate that is set by the IRS. If you are 75 years old, the return could be as much as 10 percent. If you are younger, the return will be less. If you are interested in finding out more about gift annuities, contact any board member of the Sandhills Foundation.
Pension Protection Act

What it is and how it might work for you.
Transfer up to $100,000 from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the Sandhills Area Foundation tax free. This new law allows you to give more to your community and favorite charitable organizations and pay less in taxes.
How it works: you must be 70 1/2 years old to do this tax-free rollover of an IRA.
In 2006 and 2007, you can gift up to $100,000 by instructing the custodian of your IRA to transfer IRA assets to the Sandhills Area Foundation for the benefit of our community.
Consult with your tax advisor to learn how this new charitable giving option may apply in your situation.
